Makatka is a Polish name for a decorative piece of cloth with a range of different embroidered motifs. Usually they depict text as well as pictures which is often a traditional proverb about the home. Love, animals, birds and religion are also popular themes. The text and pictures are simple, single lines with no shading or perspective. They were traditionally made to hang in the kitchen or other rooms in a home.
