This piece of Transylvanian embroidery edged in handmade lace depicts the typical colours and floral design seen in household textiles and folk costumes from the Maramures region. The pattern is repeated on both ends.

PRODUCT INFO
Romanian embroidery has a rich history, with motifs, colours and techniques that vary by region and era. They can be geometric, organic, or a combination of both.and were thought to create a protective shield against evil spirits. The complex stitchwork of Romanian embroidery combines horizontal, vertical, and diagonal seams to create a specific pattern and texture. The geometric patterns used in weaving inspired earlier embroideries, and non-geometric floral motifs were introduced in the second half of the 19th century.
