This hand-woven towel has a middle section of finely woven hemp with thickly woven cotton patterned pieces either end, edged with a decorative fringe. This pattern is in the typical colours and design seen in household textiles and folk costumes from parts of Transylvania. It would make a wonderful wall hanging. The pattern is repeated on both ends.

Romanian embroidery has a rich history, with motifs, colours and techniques that vary by region and era. They can be geometric, organic, or a combination of both.and were thought to create a protective shield against evil spirits. The complex stitchwork of Romanian embroidery combines horizontal, vertical, and diagonal seams to create a specific pattern and texture. The geometric patterns used in weaving inspired earlier embroideries, and non-geometric floral motifs were introduced in the second half of the 19th century.
