La Catrina is an iconic, elegantly dressed skeleton figure that is a central symbol of the Mexican Day of the Dead (Día de los Muertos) celebration. Originally an etching by artist José Guadalupe Posada called La Calavera Catrina in the early 1900s, it satirized Mexican socialites who aspired to European aristocratic styles.
