Easter eggs are one of the most well-known Polish Easter traditions. Called pisanki in Polish (which comes from the verbpisa?, or to write), the elaborately decorated Polish Easter egg is a tradition that is centuries old and continues to be loved and celebrated to this day.The earliest decorated Easter eggs in Poland date back to the 10th and 13th centuries, and were made using a batik technique which is still used today. The eggs are traditionally decorated during Lent and added to Easter baskets on Holy Saturday. On Easter Sunday morning, pisanki are exchanged among family and friends to wish everyone good health and prosperity.
